Task
I was tasked with creating a new loading state on app open. The current loading state was a static image which felt really stale. I wanted to introduce an animation that could delight the user and make the load time not feel so noticeable. As an extra touch, I thought it'd be nice if the animation flowed right into the home page so the whole motion felt really fluid and light.
Process
I started off with some loose ideas which I sketched on paper. I went over these ideas with my manager and decided on a direction. Then, I created this animation mock in Principle using layers created in Sketch. After finessing the timing and interaction details, the animation was approved. The video was then handed off to our iOS and android teams along with motion specs.
Since the animation flowed directly into the home page, I also created an alternate animation for deep links that would open up specific pages on app open instead of the home page.
